Phishing & Identity Theft
Phishing is about stealing personal information directly from you when using the Internet. There are several different
types of phishing scams, but they all have one common goal in mind: to steal your money, and your personal identity. A typical example is an email notice and a link pretending to be from your online bank (otherwise known as a
spoofed website).
The phisher asks for
information, you provide that information, the phisher then commits Identity Theft with your information - and without you knowing until it is too late.
Phishing scams rely on your trust and lack of experience. For example:
- supposedly genuine emails luring you in
- spyware software recording your computer activities
- fake websites you give your card details to
- sneaky programs and scripts on your computer.

We have released the
Phishing and Identity Theft Guide to help you avoid becoming a victim, and to support our work. It's a Step-by-Step Consumer Survival Guide (plus a free Internet Guide) packed with 12 Top websites you must visit to stay safe online.
What if I have been Phished already?
